Spectrum Coconut Oil

There are two types of Spectrum Coconut Oil – Organic Virgin Coconut Oil (Unrefined) and Organic Coconut Oil (Refined).

If you’re looking for the complete set of coconut oil health benefits, then go with “Spectrum Organic Virgin Coconut Oil (Unrefined).” Don’t get me wrong, though.

“Spectrum Organic Coconut Oil (Refined)” is also packed with Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT) or Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA), the rare saturated fat molecules that give coconut oil most of its incredible health-promoting properties.

But the refining process could have eliminated most, if not all, of the phytonutrients that are naturally present in the raw, unprocessed oil. This includes antioxidants and phytosterols which have anticancer, heart-protective, and many other health-boosting attributes as well.

The refined version’s neutral flavor or lack of that full coconut flavor inherent to unrefined, unadulterated Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is a result of the refining process.

Jethren Phillips founded Spectrum Organic Products in 1986, one of the pioneers in the Healthy-Fats industry.

He served as President and CEO, and then Chairman of the Board until 2005 when the company was sold to the Hain Celestial Group, a natural and organic food and personal care products company in North America and Europe.

Many coconut oil products in the global market come from the Philippines, the biggest and trusted supplier of high-quality coconut oil to the world. But I’m not so sure with Spectrum Coconut Oil.

I have tried contacting Spectrum Organics to find out where their coconut oil is coming from. But I never got an answer, twice! Anyway…

If you basically don’t like the scent and taste of coconuts, then Spectrum Organic Coconut Oil (Refined) is for you. But if you want to make sure you’ll receive most of the health benefits of the greatest oil on earth, go with Spectrum Organic Virgin Coconut Oil (Unrefined).
