Thousands of studies back them up, which are referenced for your examination. I’m Your “Coconut Oil Guy”

Coconut oil, overall, is the most valuable dietary fat in the world.

I was born and raised in the Philippines, the world’s leading and trusted exporter of coconut oil.

This gives me a unique window into the world of coconuts. A window I would love to share with you here. I have access to premium material found only in my country through the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and United Coconut Associations of the Philippines (UCAP) libraries. It is an honor and pleasure to share with you my own numerous experiences with this amazing oil, as well as other user’s findings. Get ready to explore all the fascinating benefits of  coconut oil.

The benefits of coconut oil are numerous. For thousands of years, those who have used coconut oil have known it as The Drugstore in a Bottle and Nature’s Medicine Chest. This is an oil that when added to your diet can aid in weight loss and weight management. It can speed up your metabolism for 24 hours after being consumed. It is an immune system booster. Oil pulling with coconut oil is an easy way to detoxify and cleanse your body. The purest form of coconut oil will provide you with the most nutrients and health benefits. Look for virgin, and organic coconut oil to yield the most rewards. There is no other oil that can do what coconut oil can for your overall health. There are two main classifications for coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil (VCO) and refined, bleached and deodorized coconut oil (RBD.) While RBD oil has been heated and dried out then refined, the VCO uses little to no heat and no chemical refining. The refined coconut oil is scentless and tasteless, whereas the virgin coconut oil has a fresh coconut aroma and flavor. VCO and RBD coconut oils contain essentially the same health promoting medium chain fatty acids. Both types of oils are considered to be healthy oils.

Coconut oil contains fatty acids that are smaller than that of other fats/oils. Because of this, it can easily penetrate your skin and feed each and every skin cell it reaches. From issues with  the hair on your head to the tips of your toes, coconut oil provides results.  This makes it an ideal beauty must have. You can use coconut on your skin. It’s moisturizing, has healing properties, and is a safe and effective tool for your anti-aging regimen. It moisturizes your scalp and hair, increasing strength and shine while also controlling dandruff. Not only does coconut oil work to improve the outside appearance of your body, it can impact you from the inside out. Most fats and oils are made up of long chain triglycerides, while coconut oil is composed of medium chain triglycerides. The structure of coconut oil’s triglycerides can improve thyroid function. It is an oil that produces energy rather than stores fat. You will see weight loss from the use of coconut oil thanks to the impact it has on your metabolism.

No other dietary fat or oil boosts your immune system like coconut oil can. This heart healthy oil has amazing restorative powers. The unique structure of medium chain triglycerides (MCTs)in coconut oil feeds and nourishes the cells of your body, acting as an antioxidant. The MCTs neutralize germs and bacteria, allowing your immune system to fight off more toxins than it could on it’s own. A stressed out immune system is powerless to adequately clean out destructive, cancer causing cells. Adding coconut oil to your diet helps your immune system to function properly, fighting harmful cancer causing cells. Diabetics also benefit from consuming coconut oil. The MCT fat molecules supplies the necessary energy to cells, improving your insulin secretion, insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance. It also assists in regulating your blood sugar. Coconut oil can be a cure or treatment for so many ailments that I’ve broken the list down by Cures A-M and Cures N-Z. You may wonder how coconut oil can be so powerful. It owes much of its incredible healing properties to (again) the oil’s structure of fatty acids (MCFAs.) Lauric acid (C12), Capric acid (C10) and Caprylic acid (C8) are the three medium chain fatty acids in coconut oil.Their monoglycerides are Monolaurin, Monocaprylin and Monocaprin, respectively. Both MCFAs and their monoglycerides exhibit potent antimicrobial actions. There are very few sources of these health-boosting fat molecules and coconut oil happens to be the richest natural source. MCFA-packed coconut oil is the mightiest antimicrobial dietary fat or oil on the planet, a Super MCFA.

Coconut oil is a healthy cooking oil capable of resisting oxidation (spoilage) better than any other cooking oil on the face of the earth. It is made up of 92 percent saturated fatty acids, which makes it extraordinarily protective against heat and free-radical formation. There are different types of fats, but all fats are made of fatty acids. Saturated Fatty Acids (SaFA) are saturated or “full” of hydrogen atoms in their carbon atom chain.Saturated fatty acids are crucial for maximum health. Monounsaturated Fatty Acids (MUFAs) lack a pair of hydrogen atoms while Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFA) are missing two or more. Monounsaturated and PolyUnsaturated fats don’t have the durable molecular structure inherent to all saturated fats, which makes them very unstable and extremely prone to oxidation. Being durable enough to withstand normal cooking temperatures, saturated fatty acids are what mainly constitute healthy cooking oils. Coconut oil is the most saturated of all fats giving it more health benefits than other oils.

Not only do fats differ in their saturation type, they also vary in their makeup. There are short chain fatty acids, medium chain fatty acids, and long chain fatty acids. SCFAs kill harmful microorganisms and are crucial to the health of your colon. MCFAs are easily broken down and immediately sent to your liver where they are used to produce energy, not body fat.  MCFAs also strengthen your immune system by destroying a multitude of disease-causing organisms such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi, etc. Organic coconut oil is the most generous source of MCFAs, the easy-to-digest fat molecules. SCFAs and MCFAs can easily feed your cells. In contrast, Long Chain Fatty Acids (LCFA) are the fats that make you fat and the fats that clog your artery walls. They are also the type found in most cooking oils used today. Unlike SCFAs and MCFAs, LCFAs require digestive enzymes and bile to digest and break down. In short, long chain fatty acids are common, but far inferior to small and medium chain fatty acids.

While your body needs some fats, there are others that are unhealthy and should be avoided. Trans fat and interesterified fat are generated fat molecules that don’t exist in nature. These manufactured fats were created in an effort to make them more solid and stable. Unlike natural fatty acids, your body is incapable of using these harmful man-made fat molecules. Trans fat has long been known to increase “bad cholesterol” and decrease “good cholesterol” in the body. Research has shown that interesterified fat is even worse. It not only decreases “good cholesterol,” it raises your blood sugar as well as upsets your insulin production. Luckily, we have coconut oil! It accomplishes the good stuff interesterified fat and hydrogenated fats were designed for, but without all the health dangers they both present.

The palm tree coconut (Cocos nucifera Linn) is the only tree that I know of wherein all of its parts are of valuable use to mankind. Every part of this magnificent large plant has value, from its very roots all the way up to the leaves. The oil derived from the coconut tree is a powerhouse, with countless benefits. There is no dietary fat with a health-promoting spectrum as wide as that of coconut oil, and it contains the least amount of calories of any cooking oil or fat. This makes it  ideal to use in any type of recipe. Use coconut oil as a cooking oil for food preparation or as an ingredient of a meal. It can also be used in non-food recipes, such as in a hair mask or nail treatment. Coconut oil is one of the most beneficial by-products of this “tree of life.”
