Can Coconut Oil Stop Hair Breakage?

by Amanda
(USA)

I was wondering if coconut oil can help stop hair breakage in its tracks? My hair has been breaking due to a protein treatment I’ve recently done (protein overload, I suppose).

Hi Amanda,

Absolutely! Nourishing hair care is one of the oldest uses of coconut oil. Personally, I was so impressed with what coconut oil did for my hair, it marked the beginning of my wonderful coconut oil journey.

Unlike most all other oils, coconut oil is predominantly Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT) or Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA). MCTs or MCFAs are rare and smaller than other fat molecules, enabling them to efficiently penetrate the hair strands, making them stronger and more resistant to breakage.

Compared to other oils commonly used in hair formulations, MCFA-loaded coconut oil has a closer affinity with hair proteins.

Best,
Frederick
