What is Saturated Fat and
Why it's a Lot Healthier than
You Probably were Told?

Coconut Oil: The Great Saturated Fat

What is saturated fat? What makes it so much healthier than you probably were made to believe? And why is coconut oil, by far, the best saturated fat?

Saturated with What?

All fats and oils are composed of fatty acids. Each fatty acid has a sequence of carbon atoms with differing numbers of hydrogen atoms bound to them. The maximum number of hydrogen atoms a single carbon atom can carry is two.

If each carbon atom in the sequence carries two (maximum) hydrogen atoms, the fatty acid is said to be "saturated." The fatty acid is full or saturated with hydrogen and is labeled a saturated fat.

Unhealthy, But Where's the Proof?

Saturated fats, of which coconut oil is the superstar, have been persecuted for their alleged involvement in the development of heart disease. Yet not one shred of credible evidence exists. None!

On the contrary, examination of arterial plaque, the fatty deposit that restricts blood flow in your arteries, reveal that oxidized fatty acids in arterial plaque are mostly unsaturated. Not a single medium chain fatty acid (MCFA), the predominant saturated fatty acid (SaFA) in coconut oil, was found in the plaque.

Benefits

Now, what is saturated fat doing inside your body? Saturated fats:

  • Take care of your liver
  • Are the preferred foods for your heart
  • Reduce a substance in your blood that indicates predisposition to heart disease
  • Enhance the immune system
  • ... many more ...

You would die without saturated fats. That's why your body makes them, not leaving it to chance in your diet. However, manufacturing saturated fat is a lot of work and adds stress to your body. Getting it from your diet is much easier on your body.

Super Saturated Fat

Coconut oil, the most saturated of all fats, provides health benefits "over and above" what common saturated fats give. Thanks to MCFAs, coconut oil is very easy to digest and is mainly used to produce energy, not body fat.

MCFA-packed coconut oil also eradicates a long list of bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc, including the dreaded AIDS and SARS viruses. Saturated animal fats made entirely of long chain fatty acids (LCFA) can not do this.
