It’s important to realize that in most cases, the maintenance dosage of 3-4 tablespoons everyday is usually enough even when you’re not feeling well. There's no danger of overdosing on coconut oil because it is a food, not a drug, so IT'S SAFE. It’s so safe that the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) includes coconut oil on its exclusive Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) list of foods. My very own maintenance dose is swallowing at least 4 tablespoons daily. My wife uses coconut oil only in her cooking so that’s probably another tablespoon or so, not to mention other coconut products (meat and milk) I consume on a regular basis. During sickness, which is rare by the way since coconut oil became the focal point of my health regimen, my therapeutic dose would go as high as 8 tablespoons per day. My personal high, so to speak, is during the coconut oil detox. I take in 12 tablespoons for three consecutive days and I experience no adverse side effects. Spread your coconut oil consumption throughout the day. Don’t take the therapeutic dose all at once as too much of any oil will give you loose stools, especially if you’re not used to it.
